How does a water softener work?
The Delta Hydro@Home water softeners operate on the basis of ion exchange. The water flows through a resin cartridge, where calcium and magnesium adhere to the resin. When the resin cartridge is saturated, the appliance automatically produces a mixture of water and salt (sodium chloride). Using the same resin exchange process, the accumulated calcium and magnesium are rinsed out and discharged to the drain.
